Latest – In April of 2011, rumours of a 4.0 liter version of the 911 GT3 RS started appearing in various automotive publication, soon followed by supposed spy shots and rendered images. Eventually, Porsche revealed that they were making the 911 GT3 RS 4.0, the final evolution of the 997 featuring a 4.0 liter engine. The engine itself features the crankshaft from the RSR with increased stroke dimensions (from 76.4mm to 80.4mm). This has increased the power to 500 PS (368 kW; 493 hp) at 8250 rpm and 460 N·m (339 ft·lbf) of torque at 5750 rpm. Chassis development has been influenced by the GT2 RS and uses bits from other RS 911s. Front dive planes give additional downforce up front. The car weighs in at 1370 kg, giving it a power to weight ratio of 365bhp per ton. Only 600 cars will be built.

Limited to 600 vehicles worldwide, the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 brings together in a sports car the attributes that have made the Porsche 911 GT3 a consistent winner on the race track.
The motorsport-derived 4.0-liter engine, already the highest displacement 911 engine ever, also features the highest per-liter output – 125 horsepower (hp) per liter – from a naturally aspirated Porsche flat-six engine. The engine uses forged pistons, the connecting rods are fashioned from titanium, and the crankshaft has been lifted unchanged from the 2009 911 GT3 RSR race car. It achieves its maximum power of 500 hp at 8,250 rpm. Maximum torque of 339 ft/lbs (460 Nm) is reached at 5,750 rpm.
The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 offers truly impressive performance, lapping the famed Nürburgring-Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 27 seconds. Available exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 sprints from 0 to 60 mph in only 3.8 seconds (0-100 km/h in 3.9 s), and with its gearing designed for the race circuit it reaches the 124 mph (200 km/h) mark on the race track in under 12 seconds.
The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0′s outstanding driving dynamics come from numerous, meticulously coordinated details. In addition to using suspension components typically encountered in motor racing, weight reduction is also of supreme importance. Equipped as standard with lightweight components such as light but strong carbon fiber sport bucket seats, carbon fiber front fenders and luggage compartment lid, and weight-optimized carpets, the two-seater’s ready-for-action weight is just 2,998 lbs (1,360 kg) with a full fuel tank. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0′s power-to-weight ratio is 5.99 lbs/hp (368 hp/tone).

This limited edition 911 is painted Carrara White as standard and emphasizes its proximity to motor racing by its dynamic appearance. Signature characteristics are the wide track, the low vehicle position, the large rear wing with side plates, central twin tailpipe, and the aerodynamically optimized body. Air deflection vanes mounted on either side of the front bumper – called ‘flics’ or dive planes – make their first appearance on a production Porsche. They create increased downforce on the front axle, and together with the steeply inclined rear wing, provide aerodynamics on par with its performance capabilities. As a result, at the 193 mph (311 km/h) top track speed, aerodynamic forces exert an additional 426 lbs (190 kg) of downforce, thus pushing the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 onto the road.
Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 Price : With a manufacturer’s suggested retail price starting at $185,000 (excluding destination), the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 goes on sale in the United States in late 2011.
Transmissions : All models include standard 6-speed manual transmission. 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission is available in all but GT3, GT3 RS, GT3 Cup, GT3 RS 4.0, GT2, Sport Classic models. PDK transmission includes Sport Plus setting that includes launch control and motorsport derived gearshifting.
Porsche 911 : The Porsche 911 (pronounced as Nine Eleven, German: Neunelfer) is a luxury 2-door sports coupe made by Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany. It has a distinctive design, rear engined and with independent rear suspension, an evolution of the swing axle on the Porsche 356. The engine was also air-cooled until the introduction of the Type 996 in 1998. Since its introduction in autumn 1963, it has undergone continuous development, though the basic concept has remained little changed.
Throughout its lifetime, the 911 has been modified by private teams and by the factory itself for racing, rallying and other forms of automotive competition. It is among the most successful competition cars ever. In the mid 1970s, normally aspirated 911 Carrera RSRs won major world championship sports car races such as Targa Florio, Daytona, Sebring and Nürburgring, even against prototypes. The 911-derived 935 turbo also won the coveted 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1979.
In the 1999 international poll for the award of Car of the Century, the 911 came fifth. It is one of two in the top five that had remained continuously in production (the original Beetle remained in production until 2003),
and was until 1998 the most successful surviving application of the air- (now water-) cooled opposed rear engine layout pioneered by its original ancestor, the Volkswagen Beetle. It is one of the oldest sports coupe nameplates still in production.
Porsche 911 GT3 : The Porsche 911 GT3 is a high performance version of the Porsche 911 sports car. It is the latest in a long line of high performance models which began with the 1973 911 RS. The GT3, named after the FIA GT class it was intended for, has a 3.8 litre naturally-aspirated six cylinder engine which is based on the unit used in the Porsche 962 and Porsche 911 GT1 race cars.
Since its launch in 1999 a number of variations, designed for both road and track, have been added to the range. The current range (997) includes two road and three racing models. In addition to this, Porsche are currently developing a hybrid version which uses two electric motors and a Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems which was initially developed for Formula One.
The GT3 has had a successful racing career both in the one make national Porsche Carrera Cup series, the international Porsche Supercup and also winning numerous championship and endurance races including the GT class of the American Le Mans Series seven times, the 24 Hours of Daytona outright and the 24 Hours Nürburgring five times.
